jackies

Jackie received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas in 2005. She went into social work and put her life on hold to help others, overextending herself as a busy case manager and supervisor at a foster care and adoption agency. She changed fields in 2008 in order to achieve a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Jackie especially enjoys yoga and is exploring the benefits of Pilates training. She loves being a part of such a vibrant and uplifting community, and hopes to help everyone feel welcome to become their personal best as they strengthen body, mind and spirit.

Robin Parker
Founder/Owner

robin2010

Robin is the founder, owner and executive director of MoveStudio. Her vision is to provide a peaceful, inspiring space and community for adults to experience the joy of movement as a path to mind-body-soul wellness. She believes strongly in the wisdom of the body and the power of joyful, intentional, communal, meditative movement, and she welcomes your feedback and suggestions.

Robin has been passionate about dance since 1980, first in South Florida where she grew up, and later in Dallas, including two years as a dance major at SMU. She initially studied, performed and taught ballet and jazz.  After recurring injuries and chronic pain forced her to explore alternatives to ballet, Robin discovered the life-changing practices of Nia, Pilates, Yoga and Ecstatic Dance. (Check out the Conscious Movement Dallas Facebook page to find out more about our local dance tribe.)

Once Robin took off her shoes and began to move in a more authentic and conscious way, her body healed and she found new meaning and joy in movement. MoveStudio is her realized vision of a place where other adults can do the same. She has been greatly influenced by all the teachers and students of MoveStudio over the years.

Before opening the studio, Robin was a freelance writer/editor and communications consultant and also worked for the American Heart Association National Center in Dallas. She has a communications degree from SMU.

Ana Shoemaker
Customer Care,
Osho Active Meditation

ana

Ana began her path towards understanding movement as a healing tool in her final year in college. While studying Sociology and Anthropology at Sarah Lawrence College she discovered Anna Halprin’s Movement Ritual™. Her second four-year run in continuing education came with a spontaneous move to upstate New York to begin a work exchange with Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, where she was introduced to a myriad of personal development and healing modalities. From then on she pursued work in intentional communities committed to therapy and relational healing. She encountered the Active Meditations of Osho at Humaniversity. Ana is a certified Halprin Practitioner in Expressive Arts Therapy through the Tamalpa Institute. She has begun certification in Bioenergetics as well as ABA therapy for working with autistic children. Her favorite activities are kirtan chanting and kickboxing.

Her facilitation is deeply inspired by Daria Halprin and Osho as well as her commitment of service to others, whether it is in caregiving for the disabled or intuitive projects for the at-risk population. This has enriched her pursuit of conscious connectivity to the body, mind and spirit in every day life.

Locally she volunteers with local rehabilitation program RESOLANA at the Dallas County Jail. She began with assisting in the 5Rhythms class and was drawn to the the mental health program curriculum Seeking Safety, weekly classes for incarcerated women with history of substance abuse and PTSD. It was in these groups where she decided to offer Active Meditations within their Somatic Program.

Ana’s motto for all new students wondering whether to begin is, “Come as you are and love how you have arrived.” She is happy to bring the experience of celebrating one's own authentic movement to the novice and experienced alike.

Missy Roemer
Customer Care, ZumbaHip Hop
Zensual Dance Fitness

missy

Growing up in Dallas, Missy was raised in a family that had a passion for traveling, music and dance. She quickly followed in her family's footsteps and began to make adventure and movement a big part of her life. Missy's mom enrolled her in a ballet class at the age of four, and she has been dancing ever since. She soon developed a love for all forms of dance and enjoys taking a variety of classes.

Missy discovered MoveStudio in 2010 and knew instantly that it would be her second home. The community and the mind-body connection offered was unlike any other dance studio she had ever been in. You will most likely see her in a Zumba or Nia class. Always considering herself a choreography dancer, she hesitantly stepped into a Nia class one day and has never looked back! Missy credits Nia with helping her to evolve and grow as a dancer, choreographer and instructor.

Missy also works for Zensual Dance Fitness as a dance instructor and sales assistant. She has been a certified skincare therapist since 2001 and once owned her own skincare business.
