feldenkraisFeldenkrais involves gentle exercises which increase your awareness of your body. We all move in habitual ways. Feldenkrais helps us find movement options we forgot or never discovered before. The result can be greater ease of movement, efficiency and grace. People often turn to Feldenkrais following an injury or when they develop chronic pain or tension. But we can all benefit from this awareness training, whether dancer, yogi, athlete, senior, or simply someone curious about how their body moves in space. These Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes involve the teacher guiding students through a series of focused movements as they lie on a mat, sit on a chair, or stand. PLEASE NOTE: Mats and props are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own mat specifically designed for the Feldenkrais practice, which may be purchased online at WellMats.

Reaching for the phone, behind you in the car, or twisting during yoga?

The Feldenkrais Method® is an approach to movement, learning & change based on principles of physics, neuroscience, physiology, & conditions under which the nervous system learns best.

The techniques were developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc, a physicist & the first Western black belt in judo.

This workshop teaches a classic Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lesson, to learn greater freedom in turning.

In ATM classes, the instructor guides students through movements organized around a particular function.

The lessons consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into greater range & complexity.

Class size is limited to 10 students

Please be comfortable lying on your back & floor sitting. Wear layers of loose-fitting clothing.

Angela Alston has had training in 2005 at the Feldenkrais Institute of New York under the direction of David Zemach-Bersin, one of Feldenkrais’ original US students, & at the Feldenkrais Center of Houston. She was certified to teach Awareness Through Movement® in 2008 & offers a ATM series at MoveStudio.

Discerning one's purpose and philosophy into succinct statements can seem like a big undertaking. In fact, it is a lifelong process. Purpose and philosophy are energies that are alive - they are part of your odd and are subject to change and transformation. The more you learn about yourself over time, the more self-knowing you can bring to crafting your purpose and philosophy. Even though it can take time to consciously "know" them, your body is always aware of your core truths and desires.

In this workshop you will learn how to balance your will power. Through a practice of Kundalini yoga, breathwork and meditation, learn yogic tools to increase a depleted will and sooth an overactive will.

The invitation is to join in a movement experience where trust is the principal instruction. Trust your body. Trust your breath. Trust what is guiding you. Trust what is present. We will begin with ecstatic dance practice to open the body, which will lead us into free form journaling as a way of clearing and expressing what arises in the dance, and from there we will settle into a deeply mindful yoga practice where we will breathe, wait, and listen.

Without your sight you will gain new insight. A "spotter" (non-blindfolded dancer) is present to assist the facilitator in ensuring participants' safety. This contemporary form of shamanic journey through ecstatic movement and sound has been developed through decades of research and experience by Wilbert Alix and the Natale Institute. Trancedance may be done in comfortable street clothes or workout/dance attire, with bare feet or soft-soled dance shoes. Be prepared to sweat.
